The new look Mossley Academy team made their League debut at Seel Park on Wednesday and were very unlucky to go down to the odd goal in five against Hednesford Town.

An end to end opening saw Mossley go closest when a fine effort by Curtis Norris flew narrowly over the bar. However, it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 25 minutes when a right wing corner was headed home at the far post by big Hednesford centre back Callum Reynolds.

Mossley's reply was almost instant. Good work on the right by Norris, Reiss Delaney, Keenan Ali and Taye Rashford created the space for skipper Curtis Norris to open his team's account for the season with a well taken finish from 15 yards.

Five minutes later Mossley took a deserved lead. Ellis Nield's deep cross from the right was headed goalwards by Norris. Keeper Noocock saved his first effort but was powerless to prevent the same player from bagging his second of the game from the rebound.

Mossley didn't learn their lesson from the previous Hednesford corner as this time a left wing corrner was met by the head Sam Bent and Hednesford were back on terms.

The second period was an end to end affair but the only goal of the half had an element of controversy. A Mossley corner was cleared to Bent who was clearly off-side. The flag wasn't raised however and Bent played in substitute Jake Cleary-Milligan who forced the ball home.

Mossley tried hard to find an equaliser but it wasn't to be. However, the team can be proud of the effort and commitment shown that deserved at least a point from the game.
